Painted in lighter points. Also started adding more green texture.
I also added more green to the bottom half, removing the harshest of the lines.

Susan Derges

From the moon series.
I saw various photographs in London, these photos experimented with lack of light and textures within the image.
I think this is an interesting image. I like the idea of using the moon, which is something that orbits around the Earth in space.

Gerhard Richter

Orchidee
1997
29 cm X 37 cm
Oil on Aludibond
Catalogue Raisonné: 848-9

This painting mimics the use of a camera. Parts of the flower is in focus but behind that it is out of focus.
This blurred part of the image is made by having the oil paint applied and then blurring it all with a few brush strokes going in the up, sideways and down direction in an ordered pattern. Each colour has to be planned out so this can be quickly achieved.
I've used this technique in my painting. As the first painting I had painted was from a photo that had blurred parts to it. I used this technique to start painting.

Worked on painting.
Painted more on the top. The colours are more vibrant on the top. I blurred it again, but the colours need to be blurred more at the top. The darker parts with the purple need to have some blue painted in them, the very top one needs to blurred more.
I think the green on the top needs to be blended and have brighter greens to create more contrast.

Devorah Sperber

Spock 1, 2007, 1102 spools of thread, stainless-steel ball chain and hanging apparatus, clear acrylic sphere, metal stand (44.5 x 36 x 60 inches)

Partial installation view of Mirror Universe as seen in a convex mirror, Caren Golden Fine Art, NYC

This installation was made with cotton spools used for sewing machines.
I am looking at this artist because of the subject she works on. She has taken parts from the series and re-created them in this media.

Painting-
Applied some more light green to the middle and worked on putting darker bits to the middle too. I mixed the light green with wax medium and used the pallet knife to apply texture.

The painting on top was too wet to work on to start re-blending. So that needs to be done next week.I started a new painting, using a canvas that had already been painted on. It has bright colours underneath. It's interesting to see the affect it has on the colour pallet I'm using.

Oil on photograph

I found this photo exciting. Because of the subject, being a beach. Also I found the oil paint over the top visually exciting. It seems a strange abstract merger.

Painting.
Did the top part of the image. And started blurring it. As I didn't have the acrylic underneath that was the colour that I wanted in oil, the colours were more dull. Once the oils are dry a more intense pigment can be applied.
