Jake decided it would be a good idea to wear this thundercats top to show the clear resemblance of the symbol I painted in. It is strange the way humans try to find patterns that are recognisable in abstract shapes. Once I have painted this painting to the middle I am going to re-paint these parts and remove the various animals other colleagues have pointed out.
I decided with this painting, I would paint into the middle with the base colours instead of going straight in with the wax medium as I did have some trouble with the canvas showing underneath.
I left the blue part as I am going to paint it when the surrounding is dry as to not contaminate the blue.
I was also debating if I was going to make the blue part raised up with the wax medium. I am tending to lean towards keeping it flat, and making the oppisite side raised up.
I brought my laptop in today and typed my minuets straight into the computer. I also set up a video camera so film the meeting with the BA. I think I am going to use the footage to make a DVD for everyone as a record of what we have been doing for the show.
In the evening I formatted the notes. I also edited the other minuets too so they all had the same formatting with all the abbreviated names were in bold. I copied the html, pasted it into notepad, EDIT>REPLACE I then typed in the initials I wanted to change, then I replaced them with the html code that would make them bold.
I walked down the castle arts and had a look around the gallery, I also inquired about work experience. I need to find the dates that I can work for 5 days. I also need to send an e-mail with my CV in.

When I blurred this, the pinks seemed to a bit more stiff than normal as they had started to dry out, because I painted them on the day before.
During lunch I decided, last year we was not all that organised with taking minuets for our own files, so I typed out sheets to take our minuets on, with the time, dates and people in the group, also it had lines on which to write. I think this will help us, as a group to be slightly more organised.
I also made an agenda for the meeting we were going to have about the show as Tuesday afternoons are dedicated to that. I asked some people what we wanted out of this afternoon and came up with a small list.
I gave everyone a mini presentation about the blog during our meeting. I highlighted the use of labels, and putting out name in them, so if someone is marking us, it will come up with all the posts we have made. Also the other labels will help us to find things, such as all the minuets, agendas we need to look at and any other notes anyone thinks applies.
I also showed everyone that I had set up a link with everyones names down the side linking to thier own pages, so everyone is now connected with everyone and can keep updated with what everyone is doing.
I also asked people, when they are browsing, if they find mistakes like typos, wrong dates entered for meeting or other things like that, they edit the post, and at the bottom change the font colour to red, then put "edited by" and then their name, and the changes they have made, so everyone knows that changes have been made, also suggested they put thier name in the label too.
I also tried to encourge people to put links on the side, for reasearch. Toni had a link on her blogspot to a printers that we could possibly use for printing the private view cards. I thought this was the perfect example of the type of thing the group should be putting in the blog as research.
I also typed out the minuets tonight for the meeting. I think I need to get someone to go through them to proof read them.

In the morning I was organising my work for assessment and laid it out.
I started by mixing one pink, but I changed my mind as I started and then added some other shades as well as placing more reds in. I think I am going to use pink in the middle as the most over powering colour contrasting it with the darker browns.
I ran out of time today, I had gaps in the colours and it wasn't ready to be blurred. However, as I am working in oils it should be alright to be left over night.
I was also on the macs today.
Part of our group had a mini meeting at break time about the show. I started to type these minuets up when I was reminded we had to take minuets for every meeting we had.
I then created a shared blog for all of the people on the course as we start our new unit in putting the end of year show together. I think if we were on livejournal instead of blogger, it may be easier to make posts, as the entries you post can be chosen to be hidden from the public, choose the people you want to be able to see them. Blogger doesn't have this feature, only having a full public posts or all private ones. However, as everyone has been given tutorials on blogger and are more confident in using it, I thought this would be easier for everyone to use it.
I also tried to get people in the group to join right away to see the features everyone had. There are three settings to the blog. Inviting people to "read" the blog, having "authors" these are the default uses, were people can post and edit their own posts, and "admin" were people can edit other peoples posts, and change the layout designs having full control over the blog.

I made the reds brighter to cancel out the green that I had put at the top. I think I am going to go over the white/cream again. The red has bled too much into it, I think I'm going to wait until I finish more of it so I can judge what colour to re-paint it. I think if I put a soild white on it, it would become too over powering.

Had crits all day.
Talked about possible ways of displaying work.
I had planned to use the "star trek" grey that is on the interior of the starships.
Also I wanted a frame, that is about 5mm thick with a ledge going down to the canvas leaving no gap. I wanted this to be a black.
But with discussions we came up with gold and silver as being some of the colours that star trek use throughout the series.
A silver frame that looks metallic, perhaps some metal like steel.
Also there were some issues with people seeing random animals and food in the paintings. So I am going to change the shapes a bit when I go over the colours again to make the lighter ones bolder.

I liked the contrast of light and dark with multicolours. I also found the blurred parts of this composition interesting and then having shaper focused points around them.

Glenn Brown
The Loves of Shepherds (after 'Doublestar' by Tony Roberts) 2000
Oil on canvas, 219.5 x 336 cm (86.4 x 132.2 in)
Collection Nouvion-Rey
© Glenn Brown
The reference for the oil painting came from the illustrated cover for this book. Brown had some trouble for using this image, as it was argued to be plagiarism. But it was settled that the painting had transformed the original image to become something more than the original.
Brown works in this way, transforming, borrowing and changing various images that surround him. Some of these are science fiction. And explores them into creating different compositions and changing the meaning of the original images.
Hunky Dory 2005
Oil on panel, 157 x 110 cm (61.8 x 43.3 in)
Private Collection
© Glenn Brown
This painting looks as though the paint is 3D, but in fact it is flat to the surface. This was taken from a painting and then transformed into this cold strange looking painting.

Mixing up colour pallet.
Struggled getting a yellow, I wanted a bright one but not one that would over power, so I made it a bit duller.
When painting over the canvas, the pencil lines underneath show heavily. The paint is too translucent, also when I blurred the it, the colours ran into the yellow too much. I wanted to get the edges blurred in but leaving some of the brighter yellow showing but it has gone to a brown. So once it is dry I am planning to go over the yellow and make it brighter in some spots.
